Tel-Aviv

Monday, Nov 7th 2011

It was so cold to get out of bed this morning. I guess it’s the only thing I really don’t like about winter. Mornings are just so difficult.

I had to run to Hugo Boss new store opening, early in the am, before a long day at the office. I had no time to wake up slowly so I did everything, running. I’m sure I’ll be shocked to find my apartment a mess tonight when I come back, I just had no time to organize everything neatly, like I always do. Please forgive me, home.

Running down the elevator, I took this one:

While waiting for the car to come and take me there, I had a minute to check out these vintage loafers and Valentino scarf in the window of Galerie Parisienne, the vintage store I love and happen to be located in my building.

Good morning Mr. Valentino

Hugo Boss new store in Tel-Aviv reminded me how much I love the one in SoHo in NYC. The atmosphere is always a little dark and clean. It’s very good for me to start my day with. No flashes, not too much light, there’s always nice coffee around, and it was almost an intimate preview. No complaints.

I saw these great men’s loafers. I think they are classic and look so comfortable. I’d recommend them to any guy, from casual wear to a business meeting or dinner. I love them with jeans as much as with a suit. It works!

Of course I went browsing the men section upstairs. The women’s collection is great too, but I love imagining all the men clothes I can personally find my feminine way to wear.

And before I knew it, I was back in the car. So happy it waited outside for me and not the opposite way around. I’ve been feeling a little under the weather lately and really have to watch out and not to get a flu. It feels like it’s around the corner, waiting to get to me. No!

By the way, blogging from the car rock. It’s multi-tasking at its best for me. Thank you WordPress for your iPhone app :-)

My day in fashion – pics

While waiting for my cab to pick me up to a fashion preview, I took these:

The beautiful tree below my window

The window of my favorite vintage gallery:

The sidewalk. A typical Tel Avivian sidewalk:

At the fashion preview, I couldn’t help myself and took some feet pictures, mostly of the shoes my colleagues were wearing, and of the beautiful poster on the wall, and my favorite sweater from that collection, by Yossi Katzav:

Yossi Katzav fall/winter 2011-12 collection

There aren’t that many men fashion designers in Israel. Yossi Katzav is, no doubt there, the best one we have. I just came back from his fall/winter 2011-12 collection preview, and it’s beautiful. Some of his new designs made me think – hey, here’s the Israeli version for Isabel Marant for men. That’s a big compliment coming from me :-)

Here are his new campaign pictures:

And now is a great time to confess to you all that I have always loved men’s clothes, and can totally see myself wearing major parts of this collection in the coming winter. I mean, men always look so comfortable in their oversized sweaters and pants. I do believe that I look best when I’m comfortable. So why not?

I’d definitely wear these two looks from the fall/winter collection, easily:

Shenkar Fashion Department Graduation 2011

Yesterday was the annual fashion show of the Shenkar graduates. It is always a very exciting and emotional event, for everyone who attend it, I think. The excitement of the students who get to present their designs is simply out there, filling the air with it.

I love young designers.Very much. It’s always so great to see their work coming from the purest sides of design, creativeness and art. They still haven’t faced the demand to also make it commercial, if they wish to survive as designers. That stage of pureness is short and beautiful, and I enjoy the beauty of it as a journalist, as long as it lasts :-)

25 out of 50 graduates presented their work last night. I chose to bring the works of all 50 of them here, as I can only imagine how hard it was to study and work there for the last 4 years, and I think they all deserve to be presented, even if it’s only here, on my blog :-) Here they are:

The winner of this year’s internship with Diane von Fuerstenberg is the only student I posted 2 pics of his work – Marc Goldberg. His work is simply incredible! You can see the names of the students by pointing on the pic with your mouse :) I loved Gal Shenfeld, Israel Ohayon and Marc’s work more than everyone else, though I have to admit it that they all did a wonderful job and the work of everyone is fascinating, innovating and gorgeous!

Versace and H&M fall 2011

So it’s true, H&M will present its collaboration with Versace in the coming Fall. I just came back from the press presentation with pics I got from H&M’s PR, a video of the campaign and pics I took myself in the showroom:

And here are the pics I took this morning in the showroom, minutes before the press presentation started:

As for me, I say: ok. Nothing fancy. This isn’t Lanvin for H&M. It’s elegant, it’s trendy, you can see Prada and Balmain in it, you can see faux fur, faux leather, wool, cotton, suede, nothing new. It’s simple, it’s basic, it’s not too trendy, it’s wearable. It’s FINE. That’s all… Sorry, I’m not too excited. It’s very commercial, and not in a bad way.

The entire lookbook and collection’s pictures are up to my Flickr, you can view them here.

Hilla Ohayon.

Fashion journalists presentation at Banker boutique

Hi!

I haven’t been around lately, I know, and I’m so sorry! I swear it’s all for good reasons though – I come wearing good news only.
After a long time of debating with myself, I’ve decided to do more of what I love best :-) You’re now reading the blog of the new accessories (shoes, bags, jewelry, sunglasses, scarves… you got it by now) journalist of Haaretz! So, besides my regular fashion news column, red carpet events coverage and fashion sales columns, I’m going to write a whole lot more :-)

These wonderful news made me very happy, and I started visiting shops and designers, guided by their PR people, and been trying to get the hang of what’s going on in the fashion world, in all these fun accessories and other things I have never reviewed before.

I started with Banker (unfortunately their site has been “under construction” for years now), and I loved the interior design of the 2 stories boutique and, on top of all, the shoes and jewelry they import. Here are some of the pics I took there:

Gottex spring/summer 2011 fashion show – Tel Aviv

It’s been a crazy week in the fashion industry of Tel Aviv, as funny as it may sound. Imagine: waking up at 7am every morning (not my idea of a fun start), getting picked op at 9, going to at list one fashion show and another presentation held somewhere across the city and in the middle of the day, and in the middle and after try squeezing in meetings, replying to emails and, you know, actually work :-)

No wonder I ended up sleeping most of this weekend. I was simply exhausted!

I get a lot of emails from my readers lately, saying they LOVE the videos I take from the runways. I’m so glad about that! And I’m also happy to do it. I mean, if I have the option to show you fashion shows that you are interested to see, I say why not? :-)

Gottex presented their spring/summer 2011 collection in a beautiful building right on Jaffa’s beach. It was a gorgeous sunny day and the collection was very interesting – great colors and unusual cuts and shapes, both for swimwear and beachwear. Here are the pics I took during the show, together with some catalog pics:

A Stylist and A designer met and a new collaboration is born!

My friend Shachar Rabanne, a well-known stylist here in Tel Aviv, recently told me that he’s working on a new line, collaborating with fashion designer Hagit Fink. He told me this as we were walking into Yossi Katzav’s collection presentation on a very sunny Sunday morning, and he told me that he actually has the first bag they designed together in his bag now. I don’t really need to hear more than these hot keywords: collaboration, handbags. That is really all it takes to get my curiosity on fire. When I asked to see the bag, I just knew it – I love it!

I asked Shachar to be the first to show it online, and got it, gladly. Here it is:

Shachar Rabanne and Hagit Fink's first bag

I like this style a lot. It’s made of real leather, it’s big enough, it’s vintage inspired and it’s just beautiful :) This is definitely a collaboration I’ll be following closely. Good luck Shachar and Hagit!

Alon Livne Spring/Summer 2011 Collection – pics and videos

Alon Livne, one of Israel’s young emerging designers, held his Spring/Summer 2011 collection press presentation last Thursday. It took place in a renovated loft/studio downtown Tel-Aviv, where he presented a video art presentation and a semi-fashion show/presentation. Timing was almost perfect for this one, as it reminded me a lot of  Thierry Mugler‘s fashion show, which took place the day before. I have to admit it – something good is happening to Israeli fashion, and maybe, just maybe, we will exist one day on the world fashion map as well.

You can see the pictures I took (while filming! I got it this time :D ), the catalog pictures and videos I took at the event here below. Enjoy!
