Balenciaga Spring/Summer 13 Men campaign

First images from the new Balenciaga Spring/Summer 13 Men campaign are out now, and as expected – it’s even prettier than the women’s campaign. With somewhat graphic-Japanese touches, the hidden yet very obvious surprise is in the men’s top: it’s totally floral.

Balenciaga brilliant as always.

Unfortunately I couldn’t find a video of the runway in a good quality. Too bad :(

You can see the collection in photos here, it really is an impecable collection!

A little timing explanation and some previous background is in due to this post, yes.

Balenciaga Bolero, 1958

A day after a long and very busy fashion week in Tel Aviv has ended, this miracle has happened: The opening night of a magical exhibition for my favorite brand, Balenciaga, has come. Timing is everything for sure. I was so exhausted and down after 3.5 days of 6-8 runways a day, reporting to the newspaper during and after each show and not resting at all. Anticlimax was awaiting me, along with so many mixed emotions concerning the Israeli fashion scene. To make a long story short, the exhibition at the Tel Aviv Museum of Art was the best pick-me-up I could ask for, for the simplest reasons: I needed something to remind me that fashion is art, and is not necessarily commercialised from scratch. I needed a reminder of craftmanship, of high quality embroidery, of composition, of superiority. I needed Balenciaga to balance myself and to remember why I work in fashion. Walking through the models exhibited and the glass drawers during opening night was not enough for me. I knew I had to go back and enjoy every piece with myself, alone, as opening night was packed. It’s a very good thing, but I needed my time. I came back a few days after with my camera, and took pictures of all the models, both those which were designed by Cristobal Balenciaga and also of those which inspired his work and he chose to collect and cherish in the Balenciaga archives.

This is my chance to say thank you to the wonderful people at the Tel Aviv Museum of Art for working so hard and bringing this beautiful exhibition here. One look at the pieces emphasises how hard and complicated this must have been for them and it is important for me to say – it’s highly appreciated, thank you.

If you are in Tel Aviv this winter and wish to see the exhibition, it is open until April 28 2013. More details in this link.

Nicolas Ghesquière is leaving Balenciaga!

I had to run home in the middle of a really crazy day to write the news for my column at Haaretz about Nicolas. I am still shocked with the news from PPR this morning.

After 15 years of creating the most perfect fashion house in the world, Balenciaga, he will be leaving it on November 3oth. This year. Yeah, this month.

I’m very sad for Balenciaga but will continue to follow his work wherever he goes for sure. He’s a genius in my opinion.

So this isn’t good-bye, Nicolas. This is absolutely See you later, and soon I hope!

The most important show this season

And it’s on video already. Here -

Balenciaga meets Saint-Honoré

Might be old news around here, but I love Balenciaga. What’s new about it, that every time I fall in love anew with this brand, it gives me an additional reason for it. It can be a shoe, a bag, a sweater, a dress, or even pants. There’s always something by Nicolas Ghesquière that makes me love it a little more. A few months back from now, as I was just getting addicted to Instagram, I found the Balenciaga account. They upload beautiful vintage Balenciaga pieces from the 40s and the 50s every day, mostly in Black & White. Sometimes, it’s the only pick-me-up I need during the day – a great reminder to why I love doing what I do in life. Just when it gets super stressful and intense, as it usually does.

So here’s another new reason – the fantastic design of their new store on Saint-Honoré in Paris. It’s like a museum of aesthetics, beautiful architecture and stunning interior design.

I got the new store pics from Balenciaga’s Facebook Page here.

If you are around, I recommend stepping in. You don’t have to buy anything, appreciating art, design and fashion with your eyes is free.

Balenciaga fall/winter 2012-13 pre collection – the video

Nicolas Ghesquiere, you are a genius! Too bad it’s just 55 seconds, I could watch his brilliancy forever.

Balenciaga Spring/Summer 12 Ad Campaign

Behind the scenes video – almost better than the editorials of this campaign, seriously. You can tell on the models faces that what they say about Balenciaga is really true: There is a different feeling about wearing something of Balenciaga. You just feel it. It doesn’t feel like anythingg else.
