Chanel iconic jacket – an explanation

The iconic Chanel jacket. Seriously, there is an explanation for its eternal success. First out in 1954 and continued to be one of the world’s most wanted fashion pieces in every woman’s wardrobe, this video out by Chanel explains it: it’s all about the freedom of movement. Coco Chanel herself is being interviewed on this video, explaining that her biggest challenge is to design clothes for women, which would allow them to move in them, freely. Here:

and here she is. Wearing one herself. Needless to say, it’s the only one I want:

Tilda Swinton for Chanel

One of the things that make make me love fashion so much is, that justice can be done in this industry sometimes, and it never seizes to surprise me.
Justice is when Tilda Swinton is tapped as the new face of Chanel. Yes.

That’s way too many Chanel posts

And this blog is not about Chanel, Karl or anything like that, BUT

I’ve really been obsessing with the latest Chanel Couture ss13 fashion show. I have. I can’t stop messing with it. I wanted to know everything about it: the hair, the most amazing makeup, the models, the music, and of course the dresses. I won’t bore you with my way too thorough research (it’s not really boring. I’m saving it for my next column for the newspaper, that’s all) and I just want to show you the Enchanted Interlude video Chanel made for this show. Just because it shows the magic so clearly that you can’t avoid it:

I hope you felt and loved the magic just as much as I did!

Karl’s “Mysterious new project”

So Karl Lagerfeld is working on a new “Mysterious and unusual” project, so he says. I feel like he is always up to something and it’s always fascinating. Here is a video where he introduces his new secret, without saying anything too revealing, of course. It looks like it has something to do with furniture. Hmmm. Here’s the Karl way of saying a lot and not saying much at the same time:

The new Chanel And The Diamond video is fantastic

I had no idea that Gabrielle Chanel designed her only diamonds collection in 1932 and had no clue about her approach to diamonds. This just-launched video by Chanel will glue you to your screen, I promise you, even if you don’t really like diamonds (I don’t and still…):

How To: Chanel Couture Gowns. Yeah, how to.

Ever wondered or imagined how much work is involved in the making of one single couture dress?

Ever asked yourself why can’t anyone call their designs “couture” even if they worked really hard on it and it’s really beautiful?

Here is why. This is the real thing, people. Enjoy this inspiring little video by Chanel Couture:

That’s perfection. So inspiring!

Not your usual lipstick girl

I’ve been trying to pull off some sort of a proper red lip look for at least a couple of years now.
I tested several lipsticks, so many of them, all in different shades of reds. To be honest, it never worked. I felt like a clown or at least I felt like the whole world is looking at my mouth. It never made me feel comfortable so I always gave it up and went back to my lip glosses. After a while, I try again and again, and always break.
And then a small miracle happened (let’s keep proportions balanced – it’s just a lipstick) and I discovered Chanel lipsticks. Textures and packaging are two major advantages here, but the strongest advantage to me is the accuracy in colors.
This requires a short explanation: I’m a royal pain when it comes to colors. When I look for red, I mean red only. No touches of pink, orange or anything “interesting”. No! Just red please. And when you pick up a color from Chanel you can count on it – it’s exactly the color you meant to find.
For now, I’m in love with #31. It’s called Cambon and it’s definitely my favorite right now. Here it is:

I hope you’ll find your one too!

Cut, paste and save for always: favorite Chanel ad

I’m sure I posted this one here a long time ago, but I just ran into it again somewhere and wanted to make sure I have it here: this is absolutely my favorite Chanel ad featuring Freja, of course -

Chanel No. 5 x Brad Pitt

I can count more than a few brilliant marketing and PR moves done by Chanel along the brand’s history, but I can’t really say that any of them made me stop and wonder. They are all photogenic, luxurious, accurate and speak the brand’s language. These, after all, are the most important ingredients for these matters, and yes, they have worked well and still do.

Taking a pause from Chanel’s most prestigious heritage, they chose actor Brad Pitt to lead the Chanel No. 5 perfume ad campaign. My eyebrows are raised since the announcement was made, which was quite a while ago. What an interesting choice. You can say a lot of great things about Pitt, but you can’t say that he’s the first name/face that jumps in your mind when you talk about the most luxurious perfume ever made in history.

I love surprising-out of the box-interesting decisions. A lot.

The video for the ad campaign is now out:

Chanel Fall 12 Couture

In this lifetime (and never even close to today), I will probably never have the chance to wear couture. Maybe in my next visit to planet earth, or never at all. I do think that my own private religion says casual and simple is best, but I will always look up to the real art of fashion, and for me, it’s couture. Trevor Undi directed this video of the Chanel fall 2012 couture show. These well filmed two minutes might give you a glimpse of what I look up and into when searching for art:
