AT THE 68TH VENICE INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL

September 3, 2011, VENICE – During a private dinner and ceremony hosted last evening by Gucci Creative Director Frida Giannini, Jessica Chastain received the 2011 Gucci Award for Women in Cinema from Madonna.The new annual award recognizes an outstanding artistic achievement by a woman in filmmaking. Chastain, who received the Award for her extraordinary performance in Terrence Malick’s film The Tree of Life, was among five nominees, including cinematographer Caroline Champetier, screenwriter Federica Pontremoli, producer Nansun Shi and director Athina Rachel Tsangari.Led by Giannini, the jury that selected Chastain included actors Robin Wright, Valeria Golino, James Franco and film journalist, curator and the Venice Film Festival’s US Programmer Giulia D’Agnolo Vallan. 

In celebration of the Award, Gucci will make a grant of US$25,000 to the Maurice Kanbar Institute of Film and Television at NYU Tisch School of the Arts in the name of Jessica Chastain.

At last night’s Award dinner, which took place at the Cipriani Hotel, the following guests wore Gucci:

Frida Giannini wore a Gucci one of a kind black silk crepe floor length column dress with thin strap detail at the back and an embroidered jewel neckpiece of black shiny plexiglass flowers and jet crystals.Madonna wore a Gucci one of a kind 40′s inspired black georgette long sleeved evening gown with jet and gold metal detail at the waist and fully beaded skirt.Salma Hayek-Pinault wore a Gucci Première smoky grey organza single strap floor length gown featuring a crystal detailed bodice and a full skirt embellished with hand cut petals of grey feathers and crystals and a grey satin evening clutch.

2011 Women in Cinema Juror Robin Wright wore Gucci Cruise 2012 look 43 gold all over sequin embroidered georgette gown with gold sequined evening sandals, a black suede clutch with gold leather trim, 18 karat yellow gold horsebit bracelet with brown diamonds and 18 karat yellow gold horsebit ring.

       

2011 Women in Cinema Juror Valeria Golino wore a one of a kind Gucci Fall/Winter 2011-2012 magenta voile creponne sleeveless deep neck gown with black leather belt, purple python round toe high heeled evening sandal and matching python clutch.2011 Women in Cinema Juror James Franco wore midnight blue Made to Measure shawl lapel two button tuxedo with white dress shirt, blue silk bowtie and black leather lace ups.2011 Women in Cinema Juror Giulia D’Agnolo Vallan wore a Gucci one of a kind silver sleeveless beaded cocktail dress with cut out detail at the neck and silver leather clutch with python trim.
