Prada vs. Maison Martin Margiela
7 Aug 2012
Blasted with the new fall campaigns flushing my inbox these days, it’s hard to avoid a comparison between the obvious and predictable and the intriguingly surprising –
Prada just came out with their fall/winter video. It’s slick, it’s neat, it’s sexy and it’s accurate to the maximum possible. Every little detail of each one of their lines is there, you can’t miss a thing even if you blink a million times per second – and it’s beautiful:
I mean, it even makes you want something in purple, although you absolutely loath that color.
And then comes Maison Martin Margiela with their MM6 video. It’s unpolished, no retouching, no models, no closeups – it’s simple and almost looks like the pre gifs era, taken in the 80s –
BUT it made me want to look for more, see the clothes by myself, feel them and ask so many questions about them. It’s a teaser, I’ve seen it all and I haven’t really seen anything, just the natural feeling that I want to know – MORE.
Here’s another disadvantage to commercializing fashion. It’s totally unnecessary, is it?

Hilla Ohayon.
