Chanel iconic jacket – an explanation

The iconic Chanel jacket. Seriously, there is an explanation for its eternal success. First out in 1954 and continued to be one of the world’s most wanted fashion pieces in every woman’s wardrobe, this video out by Chanel explains it: it’s all about the freedom of movement. Coco Chanel herself is being interviewed on this video, explaining that her biggest challenge is to design clothes for women, which would allow them to move in them, freely. Here:

and here she is. Wearing one herself. Needless to say, it’s the only one I want:

February’s inspiration folder

February has been a very weird month for me. I was down with a bad Pneumonia for the most of it (but all better now, thanks) and before I had the chance to get back on my feet I find that it’s almost over. Being sick is bad, by all means, but I have to admit that I finally had the time to watch all the shows of fashion weeks on my iPad in bed, and also to read a lot and watch TV! Which I haven’t done in such a long time. And now it’s back to work, full on. I hope you enjoy the few photos I loved and saved for this post:

The real people on Scott Schuman’s photos

I feel like it’s one thing to admire The Sartorialist photos (we all do) and it’s a whole different thing to know the people he is photographing again and again at different times, events and venues. This video is not only well-edited and beautifully done, it is also very interesting and give a glimpse to these real people, not necessarily in high positions in the fashion industry, yet they are fascinating because of who they are and thanks to their simplicity.

The Sartorialist – Personal Portraits from ACTA on Vimeo.

Told you, it’s inspiring and beautiful.

p.s. If you still don’t own The Sartorialist books, I highly recommend them both. I always go back to them for inspiration. You can view and purchase them here through Amazon:
This is the first book –

And this is the second book –

It’s about Tom Ford, NOT Justin Timberlake

Hands down.

Tom Ford
Even if you are not a big fan of JT, you need to watch this video. Put it on mute for all I care. I mean, how many times in your lives do you get to see the ultimate most perfect suit on a man who, how will I say it, hmm. wears it so well?
Tom Ford made it. Obviously. Watch:

Now, admit it. You danced.

Last days of spring and it’s been a little chilly today so I went for the layers look:
Knitted light grey top and black softest boyfriend pants by Maya Negri, a man’s watch by Kenneth Cole and booties by Megumi Ochi.

A new batch of Little Black Dresses

I can’t have enough of those. I’m serious, I wear them all again and again. They are the safest items in my closet. I gathered a few looks here, just for fun. If you wish to buy any of the items, just click on the images or the links!

This one is just $80 and it’s from Asos. I’m pretty sure anyone can pull  this one off, it’s a classic!

This one is even cheaper, only $31, and it is perfect for spring time, it’s pretty covered:

I’d break the black seriousness with a neon piece, maybe like this orange clutch from Asos? It’s $62 and can be matched to so many summer outfits, looks like a win-win:

And my favorite – this 50s midi black dress. It is perfect. I really like it, it looks great both for daytime and evening. It is also good for a huge dinner, there is a lot of space to fill in ;-)

Now let’s get to the yummy part. The shoes. Let’s face it, it’s never about the dress. It’s always about the shoes. My options this week include Roger Vivier, Christian Louboutin, and one neon surprise from Carven:

Two black options – Loubies and Viviers:

One cage sandals from Louboutin that will match any skinny jeans I have too:

And last neon option are this fabulous yellow pumps by Carven:

That is it for playing shopping today! Until later -

what I need right now

Oh boy, it’s been a while! This week has been a long ride to crazy town and back, work has become more and more insane as we get closer to the holidays. It’s not the holidays that are so stressful (ok, that too), it’s just that the second they end it’ll be all about fashion weeks around the world and there’s so much to do before I pack my bags and go!

Thinking of the long hours of travelling and flight in the next couple of months, I always think about ways to stay warm and as comfortable as possible in airplanes. It’s an endless mission, I have to tell you, especially if I wish to stay chic all along.
I just found this great DKNY Pure Cozy Cardigan in beige, and automatically added it to my cart. It looks like the perfect piece to cuddle in when I work on my laptop, watch a movie, read a book or even sleep during a long transatlantic flight. I’ll match it with soft cashmere leggings and biker boots, it’s very much my kind of a look. Check it out:

I’d wear it with these gorgeous Acne boots and throw a Theyskens’ Theory leather jacket for when I leave the airport and face freezing London or New York. Good thing is that I can mix all these with totally different items and style, so maybe, just maybe, I can travel a little lighter next year. Nahh… That’ll never happen :-)

Grey Line by Hussein Chalayan

When I first saw the photos from this show, the first thought that came across my mind is – hmmm, how many Israeli designers out there are dreaming to create anything similar and trying to copy this concept? Answer: way too many.

This capsule collection by Hussein Chalayan is a part of his regular collection, and adds everything an urban girl who needs to be comfortable and chic 24/7 needs.

Here are some of the pics from the Grey capsule collection by Hussein Chalayan:
