Chanel iconic jacket – an explanation

The iconic Chanel jacket. Seriously, there is an explanation for its eternal success. First out in 1954 and continued to be one of the world’s most wanted fashion pieces in every woman’s wardrobe, this video out by Chanel explains it: it’s all about the freedom of movement. Coco Chanel herself is being interviewed on this video, explaining that her biggest challenge is to design clothes for women, which would allow them to move in them, freely. Here:

and here she is. Wearing one herself. Needless to say, it’s the only one I want:

CR Fashion Book 2nd issue – behind the scenes

I haven’t got the chance to put my hands on the second issue of CR Fashion Book yet, but I’ve been following closely enough on the magazine’s website (a recommendation! It’s fantastic) and was surprised to see this cute video up on the YouTube Channel, showing the behind the scenes of a photoshoot taken for this issue. It’s very cheerful, colourful and happy, not very Carin Roitfeld, even though she is in it.

If you like Mondays and spring, you might enjoy this one :-P

A non-runway post and a great cover

I’m doing my best to still not say anything about Paris fashion week that is happening right now, because I feel like this season is all about strong collections for most brands, nothing looks simple, and I love it. I feel like it’s a lot to digest and I still need to do my thinking. For now, I can only say that I loved Balenciaga and Acne more than everything else, but it’s really too soon to tell.

In between so many runways coverages and reviews, I’m also very glad to find some inspiration in beautiful recent photos published on Another magazine and on Dazed & Confused websites, just for the change of scenery of catwalks and backstage beauty. And models, so many models. Or is it always the same group of models in all the shows? (rhetoric question that was).

Here are three. Non-catwalk non-models and non-commercial photos that I loved this week. It’s just a much needed pause, don’t worry. I’ll be back to posting outfits and editorials before you know it.

Ok, I feel much better now. Now off to watch Celine’s show from earlier today. So I’ll just end this post with a great Sunday song:

Karl’s “Mysterious new project”

So Karl Lagerfeld is working on a new “Mysterious and unusual” project, so he says. I feel like he is always up to something and it’s always fascinating. Here is a video where he introduces his new secret, without saying anything too revealing, of course. It looks like it has something to do with furniture. Hmmm. Here’s the Karl way of saying a lot and not saying much at the same time:

Dare to be Bold: Dior Homme

(photos: style.com)
Looking at the Spring 2013 Dior Homme runway made me sense some very strict classic rules: It is mostly in light navy blue, a little bit of grey, black and tiny bits of red. It is very tailored, even the most casual pieces in it are super done and elegant. I loved it. AND I loved it 10x more when I saw the video Dior made for it, and not because of the clothes. It is very different, bold, and daring. Completely out of Dior Homme strict elegant rules yet very chic and emphasises the young rebellious Dior Homme man. Watch it here:

The new Chanel And The Diamond video is fantastic

I had no idea that Gabrielle Chanel designed her only diamonds collection in 1932 and had no clue about her approach to diamonds. This just-launched video by Chanel will glue you to your screen, I promise you, even if you don’t really like diamonds (I don’t and still…):

It’s about Tom Ford, NOT Justin Timberlake

Hands down.

Tom Ford
Even if you are not a big fan of JT, you need to watch this video. Put it on mute for all I care. I mean, how many times in your lives do you get to see the ultimate most perfect suit on a man who, how will I say it, hmm. wears it so well?
Tom Ford made it. Obviously. Watch:

Now, admit it. You danced.

How To: Chanel Couture Gowns. Yeah, how to.

Ever wondered or imagined how much work is involved in the making of one single couture dress?

Ever asked yourself why can’t anyone call their designs “couture” even if they worked really hard on it and it’s really beautiful?

Here is why. This is the real thing, people. Enjoy this inspiring little video by Chanel Couture:

That’s perfection. So inspiring!

Vanessa Paradis for H&M Conscious Collection

A blast from the past: Vanessa Paradis was tapped for H&M new Conscious collection.

This piece of news brings up beautiful memories of the 14 years old French singer from the Eurovision competition back in the 80s, and then some super rock ‘n roll shots of her back in the days when she was Johnny Depp’s number one girl. Hmm.

It’s still her, that’s for sure. you can’t mistake her for anyone else, she is her own trademark. Yet, she looks very different to me, and I don’t mean the gazillion of years that had passed since her Johnny Depp years. She is just… different. As for the campaign, I absolutely prefer the more distant shots. The closeups somehow managed to dismiss so much of her natural beauty.

What do you think about the campaign?

Repetto RTW

Confession: I wore ballerina flats for years and years. I didn’t mind the brand, just the shape, quality and color of course. A few years back I was introduced to Repetto, which makes the most perfect ballerina flats, and easily got addicted to them. I still wear them, even my oldest pairs, and I think that time only makes them look better and better, so I fall in love with them even more. When I wear them, it’s quite a personal experience I have with myself – they remind me so much of my years as a ballet dancer, and make me feel very much like myself. It’s true love, really.

I recently heard that Repetto are starting a ready-to-wear line. These kind of news easily interpret themselves in my head to “I want and I don’t even need to see it first.”

Then I went online to see some images and yes, what a surprise, I still want it all.

This super French chic video tells it all. This collections is the sweetest but not too sticky, stylish but not too trendy, and most comfortable and simple collection out there at the moment. You can see more looks here at Repetto website.
